Medidas de Impedancia
Virtually every liquid and solid is able to pass current when a voltage is applied to it. If a variable (ac) voltage is applied to the material, the ratio voltage to current (V/I) is known as the impedance. In many materials, especially those which are not generally regarded as conductors of electricity, the impedance varies with the frequency of the applied voltage changes, in a way that is related to the properties of the liquid or solid. This may be due to the physical structure of the material, to chemical processes within it, or to a combination of both. Thus, if a measurement of impedance over a suitable frequency range is made, and the results plotted on suitable axes, it is possible to relate the results to the physical and chemical properties of the material.
Since impedance measurement is repeatable and non-destructive, it can provide valuable insights into the behavior of a huge variety of substances, components and systems.
For example, measuring the impedance of a sample of concrete can yield information about the water content and proportions of the constituents, leading to an estimate of the final strength of the material. Again, the impedance plot of a sample of organic tissue - anything from a piece of fruit to a human kidney - can reveal its condition and suitability for storage, freezing or transplant.
The advantages of impedance measurement over other techniques include:
Rapid acquisition of data (often within minutes)
Accurate, repeatable measurements
Non-destructive
Highly adaptable to a wide variety of different applications.
Materials Characterization
The wide frequency range and superb accuracy of the 1260 enables many different mechanisms to be investigated to characterize material behavior, predict lifetime and failure rates, and for improving fabrication and curing processes.
Particular benefits of using 1260 for materials investigations include:
Direct measurement of impedance from 10mohms to >100Mohms
Null and normalize functions eliminate effects of leads and sample chambers
DC polarization up to ±40.95V
Wide frequency range covers most applications
Unsurpassed resolution can reveal small but critical changes in material behavior
Wide range of display and output formats
Can form the heart of a dielectric test system to extend impedance measurement into Gohm range.
LabView drivers are available for the 1260 FRA from National Instruments
